Raptor Jesus, the action figure.

Actually I have had the parts and intention to make this for well over a year but I seriously fail at motivation. Anyway, working on Robby the Robot the other day kickstarted me so I went ahead and made this. It took me all of about 20 minutes.

Here is a Polar Lights model of Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet, which I added a few LEDs to. The model was a birthday present from my father to my uncle, and I offered to add the lights for added awesomeness. I really do wish I had taken more pics of the build, but oh well. I know this isn't exactly what Robby looked like. Really just his mouthpiece lit up blue and he had a few blinky lights here and there, but this works too.

ps - I need to clean my desk. Badly.

Dimension films has been kicking around the notion to remake the 1986 film Short Circuit since 2008. I can see the appeal of that - even 20+ years later, Johnny Five is still a much beloved character. However, Dimension is mistepping at every turn here. First they hire Robot Chicken writer Dan Milano to come up with a decent story, which he of course did not do. Milano's script had Johnny Five befriending a small boy who came from a dysfunctional family. Of course over the course of the movie, Johnny Five learns all about humanity and in return solves all of the family's complicated problems somehow (now, if it was in the same vein as Slingblade, then that would be pretty awesome! But of course, Johnny Five would never kill...). Dimension then further showed that they aren't taking this project seriously by hiring Steve Carr to direct. Carr's name to fame was Paul Blart: Mall Cop. This incarnation of the project languished, and I figured this was as low as Dimension could possibly get with this remake. Boy was I wrong! I really should know better by now...

Here is yet another Star Wars vs Star Trek mashup, but this time using scenes from Trek 2009. I usually ignore these as there is already 2894729847297492874 Trek vs Wars garbage floating around on the net.  However, this one illustrates very well how closely the last Star Trek film echoes the George Lucas franchise, thematically and visually. Dialog from Trek 2009 could have been lifted from the Star Wars prequels, and vice-versa.

I'm sure Abrams would take that as a compliment. It's not.
